Devika sat motionless on the couch, her body present but her mind unraveling somewhere far beyond the walls of the room. The silence around her felt heavy, suffocating even, broken only by the soft, rhythmic breathing of her children. On the bed nearby, her three kids lay tangled together, their tiny arms wrapped around one another as if instinctively seeking comfort and safety in each other's presence. They looked peaceful-untouched by the storm that had just torn through their mother's world.
